The PREFERENDUM (follow links for more information) gives us all a chance to say if we like any policies which an election candidate puts forward in their manifesto or in their Election Address. This choice is a free one - no-one has to do anything if they don’t want to. Even the candidates don’t have to list any policy if they don’t want to. However, if they don’t list ‘em, they can’t prove any support for the idea. If they do list ‘em and there isn’t any support, they are going to have to work to prove the point in Parliament. That’s real democracy: representing the will of the people!
The procedure is very simple and we use it in preparing “Manifesto of Manifestos”. Each candidate (or Party) is invited to summarise their policy proposals as a series of “one-liners”.
Arguments relating to the “NO OTHER WAGE” concept have been submitted to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, to the Standards and Privileges Committee, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA. Why not tell your local politicians about it?
