As far as having a say on any issues which concern you, is concerned, the vote is a waste of time. Candidates will assume you approve every policy in their manifesto.
Indeed, they may even see such reform as curbing their powers, that accountability would impede their private agenda, or that they have forgotten that the highest authority in a democracy is that of the people. When they do talk of reform it is usually of carving up our Parliament among their own Party groupings by some sort of “proportional” representation of those very same Parties. Very few of the electorate - well under 5% - are members of these political Parties who so seek to rule our lives.
The truth is that politicians lose their power with their credibility. They must watch the opinion polls and that leads to short-termism, to high profile expediency and to “targeted” policy preference.
